Just Like Christ - Becoming Small Group Kit

Just Like Christ - Becoming Small Group Kit

Today's teenagers struggle with defining their identity. Here's your chance to make a difference. Becoming takes your students on the journey of finding their identity in Christ. By examining the transformation Jesus Christ brought about in the Apostle Paul's life, teenagers will understand that who they are is found in the person of Jesus. Lessons Include Encountering Christ - Lesson one will introduce students to the dramatic way Paul's life was changed by his encounter with Jesus Christ. Biblical Passage: Acts 7:54-8:3; Acts 9:1–16 A Change in Message - Lesson two will examine how Paul's message was changed by his encounter with Christ. This lesson defines our “message” as the outward expression of our inward beliefs. This lesson will help students examine and critique the message they communicate to the world. Biblical Passage: Galatians 1:11-14; Colossians 1:15-23 A Change in Character - Lesson three will examine how Paul's character was forever changed by his encounter with Christ. Students will be challenged to evaluate their character in light of Paul's call to holy living in Colossians 3:1-14. Biblical Passage: Acts 22:1-8; Colossians 3:1-14 Living Christ - Lesson four will bring students face-to-face with the notion that their very identity is wrapped up in the person of Jesus Christ. Students will be challenged to become the person who can echo Paul's poignant words, “For me, to live is Christ . . .” Biblical Passage: Acts 28:11-16, 30-31; Phil. 1:12-21 What's Inside? Just Like Christ - Here & Now Small Group Kit

Just Like Christ - Here & Now Small Group Kit

Everything about the world a teenager lives in is aimed at preparing them for the future. They are constantly bombarded by messages saying that life is “up ahead,” just out of reach, somewhere in the future. But that is not our call as Christ-followers. God is at work today and is calling your students to live a life on mission with Him . . . right here . . . right now. This isn't rehearsal. This is it. Lessons Include Lesson 1 - Too often, teenagers see their lives “today” as preparation for some great task “tomorrow.” The problem is that this negates their usefulness to God in the Here and Now. Lesson 1 introduces Joshua by examining four snapshots from his early life. Joshua was being used by God . . . but he still had a lot to learn. The Joshua we meet in Exodus is not the Joshua we see leading God's people into the Promised Land. Yet . . . Joshua was still useful to God. He was not waiting to make a difference. He was living in his own Here and Now. Biblical Passage: Exodus 17:8-16, 24:9-18; Numbers 27:15-23; Matthew 9:35-38 Lesson 2 - Submitting ourselves to God can be challenging. Our flawed characters get in the way of our service to the King. We get scared. We get anxious. We don't want to fail . . . But God doesn't call us, then abandon us. Joshua was being prepared to be used by God. In Lesson 2 we see God promise to be with Joshua. The greatest thing? We see an echo of the same message in the New Testament. Jesus promised that the Spirit would come to be our ever-present source of strength, encouragement, and inspiration. There is no reason to fear as we are on mission with God. Biblical Passage: Joshua 1:1-9; John 14:25-27 Lesson 3 - It is a great tragedy when sin stands in the way of living on mission for God. For everyone God has called, He has blessed them with an enormous opportunity to make a difference in this world . . . for His sake. Sin steals from this glorious potential. In Lesson 3 you will read the story of Achan, and how his sin dramatically impacted the Here and Now of Joshua and the Israelites. Additionally, Students will be challenged by the words of John, and to never allow sin to come between them and their life in the “here and now.” Biblical Passage: Joshua 7:1-26; 1 John 1:5-10 Lesson 4 - A crucial part in the spiritual development process is the deliberate surrendering of one's will. In Lesson 4 we see Joshua leading the Israelites to make such a choice: Who will they serve? This is a call repeated throughout Scripture, especially in the words of Christ. In Matthew 16, we see Jesus painting a picture of what a life surrendered to Him looks like. It was (and is) a countercultural call to selflessness. And it is the very call at the center of what it means to live in the “here and now.” Biblical Passage: Joshua 24:14-18; Matthew 16:24-25 What's Inside Here & Now challenges your students to think about their ability to make a difference for Jesus Christ today . . . right now. Using Joshua as an example, Here

Just Like Christ - Live Love Small Group Kit

Just Like Christ - Live Love Small Group Kit

With so much going on, what really matters? Christ said His followers should be known for their love. Drawing from the writings of John, the beloved disciple, Live Love focuses on the heart of life as part of God's family. Looking at their relationship with God first and then others, help your students understand the depth and attitude of love. Then, challenge your student to live out Christ's command to love others as He has loved us. Lessons Include Lesson 1 - Many impressions exist about love, God, and Christians. Culture has hijacked our views on love and, unfortunately, the people who claim to love God often do a poor job relating to Him and to others. Jesus is the perfect picture of love. His brief time spent with the disciples forever changed not only their thinking, but also their actions. Stemming from the writings of John, the beloved disciple, these four sessions are designed to open the hearts of students to the distinctive lifestyle of a Christ-follower – a life of love. This first session will raise the question, ‘What is love, really?' The answer uncovered leads to a more personal focus when Jesus challenges His disciples, ‘Do people recognize this kind of love in your life?' By interacting with scripture, God's love will be understood as more than just a religious concept or historical fact. It will become a powerful reality that influences everyday life. This truth will launch students into a journey of spiritual reflection and faithful action. Biblical Passage: John 13:33-36 Lesson 2 - Everybody wants love. They seek it in all kinds of people, places, and possessions. The main confusion in looking for love is that people are seeking it selfishly. Love cannot be controlled, scheduled, manipulated, demanded, earned, bought, borrowed, or even discovered… True love must be given. It must come to you. The great news is that it has. God gave Himself completely in Jesus Christ. He has come to you through the Spirit. It can only be experienced by trusting God and humbly following His Word. 1 John 4:8 clarifies that ‘God is love.' Nobody can experience love apart from God. Nobody can be in relationship with God and not overflow with love. This second session builds on the students' foundation of true love and links the concept to an active relationship with God. Relationships require listening and responding. Loving God means living for God. Biblical Passages: 1 John 4:7-10, 5:1-3 Lesson 3 - This third session bridges your students' love for the God inside of them with love for the people around them. John relays the message of Christ in simple terms. There can be no confusion. Jesus says that when people do not show love to others, they do not really know the love of God. God's love does not stop as it comes down from heaven and into our lives. It moves through us and into the lives of others. The previous session introduced the fact that love requires obedience to God's commands. This truth is further clarified in session three as S

Mentor Me: Year 1

Mentor Me: Year 1

Whether you have one volunteer or one hundred, you know how important they are to the success of your ministry. Give them incredible tools crafted by some of the brightest minds in youth ministry, and you won't believe the impact they'll have.We realized that when you throw volunteers into the youth program without giving them some tools to use, they quickly become overwhelmed. So we corralled some true experts in their field and sat them down with Doug Fields in a recording studio to talk about what they knew. Just Like Christ - Revealed Small Group Kit

Just Like Christ - Revealed Small Group Kit

The Bible is God's story revealed to us. But what if your students don't have the desire or the skills to learn God's Word? Revealed removes the intimidation factor of the Bible by clearly teaching students the big picture of God's Word. Revealed also teaches your students easy to remember skills to use in studying any passage of Scripture. Lessons Include Lesson 1 - This is the first of four sessions designed to change your students' attitude and perception of Scripture, and to equip them with the tools to know God's story. Before you can begin to teach your students how to study the Bible, they must believe that it is important for their lives. The purpose of this lesson is to communicate to students just how truly essential God's Word is. Students will understand that knowing God's story is foundational for their lives. This lesson will focus on a young king, King Josiah, and his discovery of the Book of the Law. This lesson powerfully communicates the transformation that occurs when we encounter God's Word. Biblical Passage: 2 Chronicles 34:1–8, 14–19, 29–33 Lesson 2 - This is the second in a series of four lessons aimed at helping students develop a passion for God's Word. How many times have you heard a student say, “Where do I start studying the Bible?” The purpose of this lesson is to teach students a “big picture” approach to studying and appreciating God's Word. Using a passage from Isaiah, this lesson will reveal the idea that the Bible is more than just a book; it is God's primary method for communicating His truth to the world. As His followers it is a must that we understand the big picture of God's Word. This lesson will help students understand the overall story and purpose of the Bible. Biblical Passage: Isaiah 55:8-11 Lesson 3 - This is the third in a series of four lessons aimed at helping students develop a passion for God's Word. The purpose of this lesson is to teach students how to study a specific passage of Scripture. Students will learn a repeatable process for breaking down passages in the Bible. The goal is for students to be equipped with the skills to engage in a systematic, deeply meaningful study of God's Word. Lesson 2 taught students how to study Scripture with the “big picture” in mind. This lesson teaches them what to do when they want to tighten the focus, when they want to really hone in on the truth of a specific passage of Scripture. The lesson uses another portion of Psalm 119 as its biblical passage. Biblical Passage: Psalm 119:9–16 Lesson 4 - This is the last of the four lessons aimed at helping students develop a passion for God's Word. By this time, your students should have been exposed to the idea that it is important to know Scripture. They should have a general understanding of the “big picture” view of God's Word. And they should have been introduced to important steps to follow when studying a passage of Scripture. However, if your students are not willing to live out the teachings of Scripture
